Valve trays are categorized in two types: Moving and Fixed; and each type comprises different models. Fixed valve trays have holes on the tray consisting of legs extended from tray deck. These types of trays are made by punching and formed on tray deck.

Moving valve trays are the holes on which the caps are mounted on them. These caps can move up or down. In low vapor flow rates, caps fall down on tray deck and the open area of tray reduces. With the increase in vapor flow rate, caps move up and open area of tray increases and gas flows through them. Operating range of these types of valve trays is high.
